The Milky Way Galaxy
July 1, 2020
This image was taken on July 1, 2020 on a trip to dark skies in Western Kansas. This is toward the core of the Milky Way, and so many goodies are visible including: The Rho Ophiuchi region, Lagoon Nebula, Small Sagittarius Star Cloud, Omega Nebula, and Eagle Nebula. You can also see the Great Rift, the big dust cloud blocking light from the core of our galaxy.
This was taken with a Sony A7II Mirrorless camera, with a stock lens. I did kind of jerry-rig the camera to my EQ6-R Pro mount…definitely overkill. But, it did the job. This image is the result of thirty 2-minute tracked exposures, for a total of 1 hour.
